The Emergency Department (ED) at Addenbrooke's operates hours a day, days a year. Cambridge University Hospitals is designated as the major trauma centre (MTC) for the East of England. There are reserved 30 minute dropping and collecting bays outside of ED. Parking is available within the main hospital car park. Accident and emergency departments are staffed by doctors and nurses and can be contacted twenty-four hours a day, every day. They are intended for patients in need of emergency care, i.e. treatment of illnesses and injuries that cannot wait until the next day to be dealt with by a regular GP.
